Thursday, November 29, a Day of Reckoning

This Thursday, November 29, 2012, will be a day of reckoning that could shake the foundations of the Middle East and the entire world.  It is the day that Mahmoud Abbas will take his case before the United Nations, asking to have the Palestinian Authority recognized as an observer state.  The key word here is “state.”

The effect of his plea and the outcome of the vote could change our world forever.
Mr. Abbas has been on a long journey in his attempt to avoid the negotiating table and peace talks with Israel.  He determined some time ago that his chosen path would be to gain statehood recognition by the United Nations.  So far he has succeeded in gaining a seat at a UN committee – something that is entirely against UN policy, but then who cares about policy where the Palestinian Authority and Israel are concerned?  He has succeeded in getting places like the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem named as a World Heritage Site, not for history’s sake, but for the sake of having the presence of the Palestinian Authority in the Judea and Samaria as evidence that it is a nation-state.

At the moment it appears that Abbas has a chance of succeeding.  We need to pray that the Lord will intervene so that there is no chance of their success.  Their success will render Israel defenseless as a country and it will create exactly the place for more Islamic terrorists to settle and dig in for their ultimate battle to push Israel into the Mediterranean Sea.

Please pray with us for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and for divine influence on the decision makers at the United Nations.  This is not too hard for our God to do.  As a matter of fact, is anything to hard for our God? (Genesis 18:14)  Be much in prayer for the UN meeting this Thursday.
