Under other circumstances, Karim Atef   would  have spent his career teaching physics in America  at a prestigious  university like MIT or Stanford. Instead, after completing his education he returned to Iran, where he became the father of Iran’s indigenous missile pro- gram. An ardent follower of Shi’a  Islam, he was singularly focused on Jihad against infidels that threatened the spread of the faith, once even beating his cousin to death for converting to Christianity. He demanded complete devotion for himself and had little patience for those who did not display the same.

“We cannot just sit here waiting. Send them away. All of them,” Atef gestured to the others in the tent. “We do not need them. Send  them now. You do not need them to launch the missile. Send  them now.”


Hamid glanced down at his feet as if contemplating the request. It made sense. The  men sitting around the table beneath the tent rep-  resented the heart and soul of Iran’s technological community. They were essential to Iran’s continuing effort to achieve a viable defense system. And they should have been gone from the compound long before now. Once again, Hamid excoriated himself for not thinking of it. “Yes.” He lifted his head and nodded. “You are right. Tell them to go.”

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want

I spent eleven days in the Sinai desert. I climbed Mount Sinai by starlight with a young shepherd guiding me. In the desert, there are flies everywhere. Big flies! The sheep are plagued by the flies that get in their noses. The sheep butt their heads against trees, rocks, and posts to try to keep the flies from bothering them.

“Why all the erosion?” I asked the little shepherd as we were climbing Sinai. “Sheep have traveled this way and made ruts and gullies. They also dig at the roots of the vegetation, killing it, and the sheep are starving now. This happened because shepherds were lazy and the sheep had no direction. The shepherds must keep the sheep moving to prevent this from happening,” he responded.

He revealed his fly solution. “I dip my sheep in olive oil, sulfur, and spices and don’t have a problem with the flies.” Satan is called “Beelzebub,” lord of the flies.

When we surrender to the Lord, all rivalry goes…all selfishness goes…all stubbornness goes. We can say, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Ps. 23:1, KJV)

Pres. Peres to UN's Ban Ki-moon: Current Iranian Sanctions Are Not Enough

President Shimon Peres on Wednesday (February 1), met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, at the start of the Secretary-General's visit to Israel.

UN Sec.-Gen. Ban Ki-Moon said that, "I am deeply concerned by the latest report of the International Atomic Energy Agency.  I have been urging the Iranian authorities to prove that their nuclear program is genuinely for peaceful purposes.  I think they have not yet convinced the international community.  It is very important that the international community engage in a dialog with the Iranian authorities to resolve this issue peacefully.  I urge the Iranians to engage in dialog. There is no alternative to a peaceful resolution of this issue."

President Peres emphasized that, "At this time, the UN has a decisive role to play in the war against global terrorism, at the head of which stands Iran.  No country is immune from terrorism – not the US, not the European states and not the countries of the Middle East.  While Israel welcomes the sanctions, in and of themselves they are not enough.  I expect the international community not to take any option off the table, and to take determined action to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb!  Iran finances and uses terrorism.  We have witnessed the shipments of weapons and missiles that reach Gaza directly from Tehran and are received by Hamas, and the weapons convoys that go directly to Hezbollah in Lebanon and to Syria as well."

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 27 is  International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This year's  theme is Children and the Holocaust. This day was designated by the UN general Assembly in 2005 to coincide with the the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On this annual day of commemoration, every member state of the UN has an obligation to honor the victims of the Nazi era and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.

There were approximately 1.5 million Jewish children and the tens of thousands of other youths who died during the Holocaust.
