International Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 27 is  International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This year's  theme is Children and the Holocaust. This day was designated by the UN general Assembly in 2005 to coincide with the the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On this annual day of commemoration, every member state of the UN has an obligation to honor the victims of the Nazi era and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.

There were approximately 1.5 million Jewish children and the tens of thousands of other youths who died during the Holocaust.
